Trump shares footage
Donald Trump released footage that appears to show the suspected shooter involved in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner incident on Saturday night. The video captured the suspect running past Secret Service members just before gunshots were heard.
The event took place at the Washington Hilton hotel on April 25 and marked Trump’s first attendance at the dinner while serving in office. He was joined by First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, journalists, and senior government officials.
The evening began peacefully, with Trump receiving a positive welcome from guests. However, the situation changed quickly when a man believed to be armed rushed into the hotel lobby.
In the footage shared on Truth Social, security staff and Secret Service agents can be seen standing in the lobby before a man suddenly runs through them. Officers immediately reacted by drawing their weapons and chasing after him.
As shots were fired, Trump and other top officials were evacuated from the building. Trump later said law enforcement requested their immediate departure for safety reasons and confirmed that Melania, Vance, and Cabinet members were unharmed.
He praised the Secret Service and police for their fast and brave response, calling it a dramatic evening and confirming that the suspect had been arrested. He also said the cancelled dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days.
Authorities later identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. He reportedly told investigators he was targeting officials connected to Trump. He now faces federal charges, while one officer struck during the incident was protected by body armor and taken to hospital for treatment.
