New poll reveals
A recent poll ranking America’s First Ladies has revived debate about how these figures are viewed over time—and how current political divisions influence public opinion.
The results placed Melania Trump in a mixed position. Her image remains complex, reflecting the broader polarization in U.S. politics rather than a clear consensus of support or disapproval.
The survey of 2,255 Americans compared her to well-known First Ladies such as Michelle Obama and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, setting a high bar for public perception.
Melania’s relatively low public profile has shaped her reputation. Unlike more active predecessors, she has remained largely reserved, leaving her image less defined by initiatives and more by distance.
Polling data from YouGov gave her a net approval rating of -16. She ranked below Jill Biden at -9 but slightly above Hillary Clinton, who scored -17, the lowest among those surveyed.
Several former First Ladies earned strong positive ratings, including Nancy Reagan, Rosalynn Carter, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis stood out with a notably high +56 rating.
Overall, the findings highlight how modern political figures are judged through partisan lenses, while historical figures often benefit from time. Melania Trump’s standing reflects this divide, offering a snapshot shaped as much by politics as by personal legacy.
