At 67, Ellen DeGeneres reveals triple diagnosis
Ellen DeGeneres faced a challenging period when allegations of bullying emerged, tarnishing her previously spotless reputation in showbiz. Once the host of one of the world’s most popular talk shows, she stepped back from the limelight to live a quieter life.
During this time, DeGeneres encountered serious health issues, which she discussed in her Netflix special For Your Approval, released last September. The show, considered her final farewell to live comedy, revealed the extent of her struggles.
The 67-year-old comedian disclosed she had been diagnosed with osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and reduces their density. She recounted experiencing severe pain, initially believing she had torn a ligament, and early scans even suggested arthritis.
Ellen also revealed she was given a possible OCD diagnosis during therapy following the bullying allegations. She admitted misunderstanding the condition at first, believing it merely meant being organized, reflecting her upbringing in a Christian Science environment where diseases were rarely discussed.
In addition, DeGeneres shared that she had been diagnosed with ADHD, making it difficult to maintain focus or sit still. She joked about the irony of obsessing over things while quickly forgetting them, which she said somehow balances out to being “well-adjusted.”
Despite these health challenges, Ellen has adapted to her new life. She and her wife, Portia de Rossi, relocated to the UK in 2024, where she continues to work as a Hollywood producer while remaining retired from talkshow hosting.
The comedian’s candid reflections underscore both the personal and professional hurdles she has faced, as well as her resilience in navigating health and public scrutiny.
