Brother of woman
A tragic helicopter crash in New York on April 10 claimed the lives of a Spanish family of five and their pilot. Siemens executive Agustín Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three young children, along with pilot and former Navy SEAL Sean Johnson, died when their sightseeing chopper plunged into the Hudson River. The crash occurred shortly after Johnson radioed New York Helicopters, stating the aircraft needed fuel. Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter split in two mid-air before crashing into the water.
Following the accident, Merce Camprubi Montal’s brother, Joan, traveled to New York to identify his family members and lay a wreath near the site. At a press conference, he paid tribute to them, saying, “We will never forget you,” and vowing to keep their smiles alive. Michael Roth, the helicopter’s owner, noted that Johnson had called in expecting to land within minutes, but the aircraft never arrived. Eyewitnesses described the incident as sounding like a “sonic boom,” with one man recalling the rotor detaching and the chopper crashing directly into the river. The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the cause of the deadly crash.
