CHICAGO ROCKED BY HOLIDAY

At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend, with seven victims dying from their injuries, according to police reports.

Authorities said most of the shootings were unrelated incidents, and only a few arrests have been made so far as investigations continue across the city.

Among those killed were two women, three men, and two additional victims whose identities have not yet been confirmed.

In response to rising violence, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order preventing Chicago police from cooperating with federal law enforcement agencies.

The move directly challenges President Donald Trump’s call to deploy federal troops or agents to assist local authorities in combating crime.

Johnson pledged to fight any such federal intervention in court, arguing that the city must maintain local control over policing efforts.

Meanwhile, the White House criticized Democratic leaders for what it called politicizing public safety instead of addressing violent crime. Chicago has recorded 272 homicides so far this year.
