China issues scathing
Former President Donald Trump has imposed a steep 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods as part of a broader effort to reshape global trade, with China responding swiftly by slapping a 125 percent tariff on U.S. products. Since Trump’s return to the White House in January, his administration has aggressively pursued tariffs, with April 2 labeled “Liberation Day” for America. Although the U.S. later exempted some products—like smartphones and computers—from the tariffs, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick warned that these exemptions might be temporary, hinting at a new tariff on semiconductors.
In retaliation, China not only raised tariffs but also banned its airlines from purchasing aircraft or parts from American manufacturer Boeing, pausing all current orders. The Chinese government is reportedly assisting its airlines in managing potential cost increases due to the ban. Despite the escalating trade tensions, Trump remains firm on his stance, declaring via Truth Social that America is entering a “Golden Age,” emphasizing job growth, domestic production, and fairer international trade practices—particularly with China.
