Dem Leader Jeffries Rips Supreme Court, Says It Has ‘Enabled’ Trump

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) criticized the Supreme Court on CNN’s The Situation Room, claiming it had allowed former President Donald Trump to act with unchecked power, calling the situation “shameful.”

Jeffries emphasized that those cooperating with or benefiting from the Trump administration’s actions remain subject to legal accountability, pointing out that the statute of limitations for such cases is five years.

He argued that while Trump and his administration may no longer hold office, the legal and political consequences will continue. Jeffries stressed that accountability will require an independent Department of Justice and a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.

During Trump’s presidency, Democratic attorneys general, prosecutors, and the Biden Justice Department pursued legal action against the former president, marking unprecedented scrutiny for a past commander-in-chief.

Jeffries criticized Trump and his allies for allegedly undermining the integrity of the Department of Justice, calling it one of the nation’s most respected law enforcement institutions.

He also placed blame on conservative Supreme Court justices, accusing them of granting Trump near-blanket immunity and enabling him to act like a king, contrary to the intentions of the Constitution’s framers.

Jeffries concluded that this unchecked presidential power needs to be addressed and reversed, condemning the Court for what he described as unleashing “out-of-control behavior,” though he did not note that liberal justices have also sided with the president in multiple cases.
