Dem Sen. Warren Makes Big Announcement About Her Political Future
Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced Monday that she will run for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Warren has held her seat since 2012 and shared a video on Twitter featuring Massachusetts voters praising her work. Her announcement follows comments last month that led some to speculate she might consider a 2024 presidential run.
“We’ve won some big victories for working families, but there’s more to do. So today I’m making it official: I’m running for re-election to keep up the fight,” Warren said in her Twitter announcement.
The video highlights voter support, with one saying, “Across Massachusetts, Elizabeth makes sure we have a choice,” and another adding, “Elizabeth doesn’t f— around. She’s always in our corner.”
Earlier this month, Warren stirred speculation when she initially declined to endorse President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for 2024. Her remarks led to Harris reportedly refusing Warren’s phone calls, though Warren has called twice to apologize.
During a Boston Public Radio interview, Warren said she deferred to Biden on his running mate choice, expressing respect for Harris and their long professional history. She later clarified, affirming full support for the Biden-Harris ticket, calling them “a terrific team with a strong record of delivering for working families.”
Meanwhile, criticism of Harris has grown among Democrats. The New York Times reported that many feel Harris has struggled to define her vice presidency and failed to prove herself as a future party leader, leaving some allies disappointed.
Some Democrats, including fundraiser John Morgan, have expressed concerns that Harris’s perceived weaknesses could become a major argument against Biden in the 2024 election, reflecting growing unease within the party.
