Despite a healthy body, Bruce Willis’s wife admits his brain is failing.
Emma Heming Willis on Bruce Willis’s Decline
Emma Heming Willis has opened up about her husband Bruce Willis’s worsening health, saying his “brain is failing” and that he is gradually losing his ability to speak and connect.
The Die Hard actor, now 70, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia over three years ago. Emma, who is releasing a book about their journey, explained that while the decline is painful, her family has found ways to adapt.
She is also using her platform to raise awareness for caregivers facing similar struggles, emphasizing that they, too, need support and resources.
In an ABC interview, Emma said Bruce remains physically strong and mobile, but his mind continues to deteriorate. “The language is going,” she explained, adding that they now communicate with him in new, adapted ways.
The Willis family first shared the dementia diagnosis in 2023. According to the Cleveland Clinic, frontotemporal dementia is a progressive brain condition that slowly damages areas tied to speech and behavior. It has no cure, though some symptoms can be managed.
Emma, 47, admitted she initially tried to handle everything on her own, leaving her drained and isolated. Her upcoming book, Unexpected Journey, aims to guide others in similar caregiving roles. Despite challenges, she said the family still cherishes glimpses of Bruce’s familiar warmth.
Bruce now lives in a care facility to receive full-time support. Emma said it was a painful choice but one that prioritizes their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, who continue to share meals and moments with their father.
