Details of Nancy Guthrie’s Final Hours Before Disappearance Revealed
What seemed like a typical Saturday night has evolved into a disturbing investigation that has deeply unsettled even seasoned law enforcement officials.
Early Sunday morning, February 1, 2026, authorities learned that Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, was missing from her Tucson, Arizona home. A family member contacted 911 after repeated attempts to reach her failed, quickly raising concerns beyond a routine welfare check.
Investigators confirmed that Nancy had been dropped off at her residence after dinner between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. Saturday. Her daughter Annie, the last person to see her, reported nothing unusual—no signs of fear, confusion, or distress.
The situation grew more troubling when family members realized Nancy was missing around 11 a.m. Sunday, after a call from her church noting her absence. Police were notified shortly after noon, leaving investigators focused on the unexplained overnight gap.
By Sunday afternoon, homicide detectives were sent to the home, an uncommon step in missing-person cases. Sheriff Chris Nanos said evidence inside the house indicated serious concern and suggested Nancy did not leave voluntarily.
Authorities emphasized that Nancy was mentally sharp, independent, and not prone to wandering, though she required daily medication. Detectives now believe she was taken from her home against her will and possibly injured.
Search efforts were halted as the case shifted fully to a criminal investigation. Nancy remains missing, no arrests have been made, and officials continue urging the public to share any information that could help solve the case.
