Donald Trump Appears To Name Likely 2028

Former President Donald Trump has indicated that Vice President JD Vance is likely the leading candidate to carry the MAGA torch into the 2028 presidential election. While he stopped short of endorsing Vance outright, Trump described him as “most likely” the favorite.

Trump also floated the idea of a possible partnership between JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting the two could form a ticket. He noted, “Marco is somebody that maybe would get together with JD,” hinting at efforts to bring unity within the Republican Party.

Despite previously clashing with Trump, Rubio has embraced his current role and spoken warmly of Vance, calling him “one of my closest friends in politics.” Rubio said he believes Vance would make “a great nominee,” while reaffirming his focus remains on foreign affairs.

Trump was careful to stress that it’s still “too early” to make firm decisions about the 2028 race. He also dismissed speculation about running for a third term, calling it “probably not” in the cards.

Political analysts believe Trump’s comments may be more about maintaining influence and media focus than making serious endorsements. By floating names, he keeps himself central to the GOP narrative.

As of now, betting markets place JD Vance as the front-runner for 2028, with 27% odds. California Governor Gavin Newsom trails behind at 17%.

Though Trump remains a major political force, his eligibility issues keep his odds low, highlighting an evolving Republican landscape as 2028 approaches.
