Donald Trump calls California governor NSFW ‘nickname’
Former President Donald Trump has threatened action against California after a transgender athlete won two events at the state high school finals. Posting on Truth Social, Trump criticized the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for allowing AB Hernandez, a 16-year-old transgender athlete, to compete in and win the girls’ high jump and triple jump. Trump referred to Governor Gavin Newsom using a derogatory nickname and warned of “large scale fines” against the state for ignoring his previous warnings.
This comes after Trump signed an executive order in February called Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports, aiming to block federal funds from schools that allow transgender girls to compete in girls’ sports. The administration previously accused the University of Pennsylvania of violating Title IX for similar reasons. Following the CIF event, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon warned school districts they could face legal consequences for policies that allow transgender athletes in girls’ sports, calling such policies a violation of the Equal Protection Clause. The CIF acknowledged the investigation but declined to comment.
