Donald Trump orders reopening of America

President Donald Trump has announced plans to reopen and expand Alcatraz prison, which shut down in 1963 due to high operating costs. He declared the move on Truth Social, calling for the return of a tougher approach to crime, saying America must no longer tolerate repeat offenders and illegal immigrants committing violent acts. Trump stated that reopening Alcatraz would send a strong message about law, order, and justice, and he directed federal agencies to begin work on rebuilding the prison to house the country’s most dangerous criminals.

Alcatraz, located on an island near San Francisco, once held infamous criminals like Al Capone and George ‘Machine-Gun’ Kelly. Its closure wasn’t due to escapes, but rather the high maintenance and supply costs, with daily expenses nearly three times higher than other prisons. For instance, it cost \$10.10 per inmate daily at Alcatraz, compared to just \$3 at USP Atlanta. Water and supplies had to be delivered by boat, making it financially impractical. Since its closure, Alcatraz has operated as a tourist site. Trump’s push to reopen it reflects his continued hardline stance on crime and his emphasis on national security.
