Katy Perry safely returned to Earth after joining an all-female spaceflight aboard a Blue Origin capsule. The mission included Aisha Bowe, Kerianne Flynn, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, and Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée. This marked the first all-women space crew since 1963. The flight lasted just 11 minutes and crossed the Karman Line — 62 miles above Earth — which is considered the edge of space. However, some people questioned whether it truly counts as space travel due to its brief duration and borderline altitude.
Upon the capsule’s return, many were amused by the supposedly “soft landing,” as video footage showed dust flying and passengers screaming, prompting social media jokes comparing it to a crash or even Dorothy’s house from The Wizard of Oz. Critics also poked fun at how short the journey was, given the months of buildup. Questions also arose about why Perry was chosen, but Sánchez, who assembled the team, said each woman was selected for being an inspirational storyteller in her own way, with the goal of sharing their space experience from unique perspectives.
