Everything we know about Charlie Kirk murder suspect following his arrest

Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested on September 12 in connection with the shooting of Charlie Kirk, who was killed two days earlier during a speaking event at Utah Valley University (UVU). Kirk was struck in the neck and later pronounced dead at a hospital, with former President Donald Trump confirming his passing.

Authorities initially sought public help to identify the shooter, releasing surveillance images. Robinson was later identified after a family member recognized him from the footage and contacted police, claiming he had confessed or hinted at involvement.

Robinson, a Utah native, had been living with his parents and studying electrical work at Dixie Technical College. Though not a current UVU student, records show he briefly attended the university in 2021. His grandmother described him as quiet, nonpolitical, and unlikely to use firearms.

Other family members, however, told investigators that Robinson had expressed disapproval of Kirk’s views and had grown more politically outspoken. At a family dinner, he reportedly criticized Kirk for spreading “hate.”

Authorities also reviewed messages from Robinson’s roommate, who claimed Robinson had left instructions about hiding a rifle. Discord disputed this, clarifying that the cited messages were not from its platform but rather secondhand notes about a message Robinson had left elsewhere.

Investigators additionally found bullet casings with unusual engravings, including political taunts and internet slang. These items are being analyzed as part of the case.

Robinson is expected to face charges including aggravated murder, firearm discharge, and obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could face the death penalty, which Utah officials have indicated they intend to pursue.
