In about five billion years, the sun will enter its red giant phase, expanding massively as it burns through its hydrogen fuel. During this phase, the sun will likely engulf Mercury, Venus, and possibly even Earth. Musk shared his thoughts on Fox News, explaining that colonizing Mars is crucial for preserving life, as our planet will eventually be destroyed. NASA has previously confirmed that while the sun is still in its prime, it will eventually deplete its energy.
