Farewell Richard Gere
Renowned actor Richard Gere has sold his luxurious estate in New Canaan, Connecticut for nearly $11 million, according to PEOPLE. The 75-year-old plans to move to Spain with his family, marking a major lifestyle change.
Gere originally bought the property in 2022 for $10.8 million from musicians Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, who had paid $16.5 million for it, meaning they took a large loss on the sale. Gere’s recent selling price was actually $50,000 less than what he paid.
He lived on the estate for two years with his wife, Alejandra Silva, 41. The couple had once considered transforming the property into a farm. The home, built in 1938, spans 32 acres and includes six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a swimming pool, lush gardens, and a separate three-bedroom guesthouse.
Gere has now decided to move abroad. The sale of the home is part of that transition. He and Silva, a Spanish publicist, have lived in the U.S. since their 2018 marriage, but now wish to be closer to her family.
In an interview with Vanity Fair Spain, Gere said he wants Silva to enjoy life among her friends, family, and familiar culture. He added that it’s important to give her that experience after living in America for several years.
Gere described the move to Madrid as an exciting “adventure” for him, Silva, and their two young sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4.
He also has a 24-year-old son, Homer, from his previous marriage, while Silva has an 11-year-old son, Albert, from her first marriage.
