Tuesday, November 11, marked Veterans Day, and veterans from across the U.S. traveled to Washington, D.C., through the non-profit Honor Flight Network to take part in the celebrations. They received a heartwarming welcome upon arrival.

When a flight carrying Korean and Vietnam War veterans landed in the capital, the group was met with a surprise visit from former President Barack Obama. His unexpected appearance created an emotional and unforgettable moment for the war heroes.
Obama’s Message of Gratitude
According to ABC News, Obama boarded the flight arriving from Madison, Wisconsin, and addressed the veterans over the intercom. He expressed his deep appreciation, saying, “As we approach Veterans Day, I wanted to stop by and just say thank you for your extraordinary service… we are very grateful.”
Honor Flight Network’s Role
The Honor Flight Network organized the trip, providing veterans with free travel to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to their service. Over the past two decades, the organization has flown more than 300,000 veterans to the capital.

The organization says these trips allow veterans to reconnect, honor the fallen, and share their stories. Participation is always free, thanks to generous donations from supporters nationwide.

Later, Obama shared his reflections on Medium, calling it an “honor” to welcome the veterans and thank them for their sacrifices in defending the nation.
