Grey’s Anatomy star Eric

Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has revealed his ALS diagnosis at age 52. ALS, a progressive motor neurone disease, leads to muscle weakness and can affect speech, movement, and breathing. Dane expressed gratitude for his family’s support and shared that he will continue working, including returning to the set of Euphoria next week. He asked for privacy during this time. ALS has no known cure, and while the average life expectancy post-diagnosis is three to five years, some individuals live much longer.

Dane also reflected on his departure from Grey’s Anatomy in 2012. Although his character was written off in a dramatic storyline, he disclosed in a podcast that he didn’t leave voluntarily and believes he was “probably fired.” He acknowledged his past struggles with addiction, though he said that wasn’t the main reason for his exit. Dane hinted that financial reasons may have played a role, stating he had become “too expensive” for the network. Despite the challenges, he has remained active in his career and continues to be a beloved figure in television.
