Homemade Patty Melt with a Signature Sauce
If you’re in the mood for a hearty and flavorful comfort meal, patty melts with a creamy signature sauce are an excellent option. This diner-style classic pairs seasoned beef, melted cheese, and crisp rye bread with a sauce that adds a sweet and savory kick.
The dish is easy to prepare yet feels rich and satisfying, making it perfect for busy weeknights or casual weekend dinners. It delivers familiar flavors with just enough indulgence to feel special.
Start by dividing one pound of ground beef into three equal portions. Shape them into thin patties sized to match your bread, then season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until they are fully cooked through. Once done, remove them from the pan and set them aside while you prepare the other components.
To make the sauce, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon, ketchup, relish, and a small amount of sugar in a bowl. Mix until smooth and evenly blended, creating a rich and slightly sweet spread.
Clean the skillet and lower the heat to medium. Butter one side of each rye bread slice, place three slices butter-side down in the pan, and layer with provolone cheese, a beef patty, and cheddar cheese.
Spread the sauce on the remaining bread slices and place them on top. Cook until golden, flip carefully, and toast the other side until the cheese melts. Serve immediately for a warm, comforting meal.
