ICE facility shooting leaves multiple
Three people were shot early Monday at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas. Authorities confirmed the suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to NBC News, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials noted that no ICE officers were among the injured. Police received emergency calls around 6:40 a.m. local time.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem addressed the incident, saying the motive remains unclear. In a statement posted to X, she confirmed “multiple injuries and fatalities” and stressed that ICE officers face growing levels of violence.
Noem urged the public to pray for the victims and their families, condemning the attack as “unprecedented” and unacceptable.
Vice President JD Vance also reacted, calling the shooting part of an “obsessive attack on law enforcement.” He added, “I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons described the suspect as a “possible sniper,” firing from an elevated position in a nearby building, according to Dallas police.
The targeted facility is used to process detainees before transfer to detention centers, typically holding a few dozen individuals. CNN reported that some of the detainees present during the shooting are believed to be among the victims.
