Inside grand palace new Pope

Pope Leo XIV, recently elected as the first American pope, faces important decisions regarding his new role and residence. Following the passing of Pope Francis, who chose a modest lifestyle at the Casa Santa Marta rather than the luxurious papal apartments, Pope Leo might continue this tradition. Originally from Chicago and having spent much of his life as a missionary in Peru, the 69-year-old leader may not be inclined toward opulence. Despite being offered the Apostolic Palace and receiving items like a \$500,000 gold ring and a bulletproof popemobile, he may choose a simpler living arrangement.

Even if Pope Leo opts out of the palace, he will still have access to iconic Vatican landmarks like the Sistine Chapel, Raphael’s Rooms, and the Borgia Apartments. The Vatican provides for his needs, including food, travel, and security. In his first sermon, delivered in English, Pope Leo expressed his commitment to guiding the Church as a community of believers. As he decides between the grandeur of the Apostolic Palace or the scenic Castel Gandolfo retreat, it remains to be seen whether he will follow Pope Francis’s example of humility and simplicity.
