Karoline Leavitt Slammed For Calling Texas Floods ‘An Act Of God’

Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, is facing backlash for calling the devastating Texas floods an “act of God” during a press briefing.

While many Americans celebrated Independence Day, the town of Kerrville was struck by deadly flash floods. Rescue operations are still underway, with officials searching for the missing and helping survivors.

The flood was triggered by an intense downpour, dumping a month’s worth of rain within hours. The Guadalupe River rose by 26 feet, leading to widespread destruction of homes, vehicles, and campsites.

Over 100 lives have been lost, including 84 in Kerr County alone. Among the victims are adults and children, with some still unidentified. Many others remain missing, and the death toll is expected to rise.

Some have blamed the National Weather Service (NWS) for failing to adequately warn residents. Reports suggest the agency was understaffed due to budget cuts linked to a cost-efficiency initiative reportedly led by Elon Musk.

Leavitt defended the Trump administration, denying any fault. She emphasized that the NWS delivered timely warnings and insisted the disaster was beyond human control, describing it as “an act of God.”

Her comments sparked criticism on social media, with many accusing the administration of deflecting blame. Critics argued earlier alerts could have saved lives, and some pointed to Trump-era cuts to NOAA as a factor in the failure to prevent the tragedy.
