Kate Middleton ‘begged’ to be allowed to go to Wimbledon after being ‘banned’ from match

The Princess of Wales, known for regularly attending Wimbledon with her children, once had to miss the event in 2013 despite her strong desire to go. At the time, Kate was heavily pregnant with Prince George and was advised by her doctors not to attend.

The Wimbledon finals that year took place on July 7, just weeks before Prince George’s birth on July 22. Kate later shared that she was eager to be there but ultimately had to listen to medical advice.

In the BBC documentary Our Wimbledon, Kate told presenter Sue Barker: “I was very heavily pregnant with George, so I wasn’t able to turn up.” When Barker noted she had a good reason, Kate responded, “I know, but even still,” explaining she had considered going anyway before being told “no” by her doctors.

She later wrote a letter to Andy Murray to congratulate him and apologize for missing the match. During all three pregnancies, Kate suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe condition causing intense nausea and vomiting.

This condition can lead to serious health issues like dehydration and weight loss, sometimes requiring hospitalization. Despite this, Kate expressed a strong interest in attending the event that year.

By 2016, Kate and Prince William were able to watch Murray win again, congratulating him afterward. Kate praised the game, and William told him, “So pleased for you, well done.”

Kate also described Prince George’s birth as “extraordinary” and recalled their first night together during a podcast, noting it was a hot and stormy evening.
