Kate Middleton defended after royal fans call out detail in Christmas card photo
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2025 Christmas card has sparked online debate, prompting many royal fans to come to the couple’s defence after critics labelled the release as “lazy.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared their festive message on 18 December, unveiling a family photograph featuring their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The image was posted on Kensington Palace’s social media accounts.
In the photo, the family is seated in a field filled with yellow and white flowers. Charlotte, aged 10, rests her head on William’s shoulder, while seven-year-old Louis relaxes between his father’s legs. Kate embraces their eldest son, George, who is 12.
Although the message simply read, “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas,” some critics took issue with the image. Online users noted that the photo was taken months earlier, reportedly during a shoot in Norfolk back in April.
Others questioned the lack of festive elements, pointing to the spring flowers in the background as evidence that the picture was not taken during the Christmas season. Some asked why a more recent or seasonal image was not used.
However, many supporters defended the couple, arguing that it is common for families to use photos taken earlier in the year for Christmas cards. Several noted that the Wales family often reuses images from the same photo sessions.
Fans also suggested the daffodils may symbolise Wales, the nation’s flower. Many praised the card regardless, describing it as warm, joyful and a touching portrait of a close-knit family.
