Keir Starmer Tells Trump To Keep Hands Off Greenland

Keir Starmer has stated that decisions about Greenland’s future should rest solely with Greenland and Denmark, insisting that Donald Trump should not interfere. His remarks came after Trump once again suggested the United States should take control of the territory.

Trump has argued that Greenland is vital to US “national security,” repeating claims he has made several times since returning to office. He continues to present the island as strategically important for American interests.

Speculation about US intentions intensified recently amid heightened attention on Trump’s foreign policy rhetoric. This followed international developments that appeared to place renewed focus on American military and diplomatic actions.

Leaders in both Greenland and Denmark quickly rejected any suggestion of US annexation. Although Greenland governs many of its own affairs, it remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a status both governments firmly defended.

Starmer supported this stance, saying outside nations have no right to decide Greenland’s future. Asked directly whether he would tell Trump to stay away from the issue, he confirmed that he would.

He emphasized Denmark’s role as a close European and Nato ally, adding that Britain stands firmly with Copenhagen. Starmer repeated that only Greenland and Denmark should determine what happens to the territory.

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen echoed this position, calling the idea of a US takeover “nonsensical.” While Trump later dismissed the objections, Greenland’s population remains overwhelmingly opposed to becoming part of the United States.
