King Charles Gives

King Charles has shared a moving update on his battle with cancer, describing it as a “deeply personal” journey 15 months after his diagnosis. At a Buckingham Palace event on April 30 honoring cancer support organizations, the 76-year-old monarch expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who care for the roughly 390,000 people diagnosed with cancer annually in the UK. He acknowledged the fear and uncertainty that come with a cancer diagnosis, writing that, as a patient himself, he has experienced both the challenges and the profound kindness that can emerge in such times.

The King praised the compassion shown by healthcare workers and volunteers, noting that these moments of care shine brightest during illness. He said his experience has deepened his appreciation for the tireless efforts of those supporting cancer patients, many of whom he has met and worked with over the years. Charles was diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer in January 2024 following prostate surgery. His aides report that his health is improving steadily, which is evident in the busy schedule of national and international engagements he is currently maintaining. The King closed his message by offering his and his family’s sincere admiration and thanks to the cancer support community.
