Legendary Italian Fashion Designer Passed Away At Age 91
Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, Reuters reports, marking the end of a remarkable era in global fashion.
Armani was renowned for defining modern Italian elegance, combining creativity with sharp business acumen. Over five decades, he transformed his brand into a global powerhouse, generating around 2.3 billion euros ($2.7 billion) annually.
The Armani Group released a statement expressing deep sorrow: “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani. In this company, we have always felt like part of a family.”
Employees and family members pledged to honor his legacy, promising to protect and carry forward the brand with respect, responsibility, and love. A public funeral chamber will be open in Milan on Saturday and Sunday, with a private service planned for a later date.
Born July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy, Armani became one of the world’s most influential designers. He launched his own label in 1975 with partner Sergio Galeotti, and expanded into accessories, fragrances, cosmetics, home goods, and luxury hotels.
Armani’s minimalist suits and relaxed designs in the 1980s redefined business fashion, creating the iconic “Armani look” and dressing Hollywood stars such as Richard Gere. His independence allowed him to maintain creative control while growing one of the largest privately owned fashion houses in the world.
Beyond fashion, Armani was also a philanthropist, supporting medical research, humanitarian initiatives, and disaster relief, leaving a legacy that extended far beyond the runway.
