Melania Trump reveals White House Christmas theme after saying ‘who gives a f**k’ in resurfaced clip
First Lady Melania Trump has unveiled this year’s White House Christmas theme, even as an old recording in which she bluntly dismissed holiday decorations is circulating online once more.
On 1 December, Melania shared a video on her official @FLOTUS X account announcing that the 2025 holiday theme is “Home Is Where the Heart Is.” The clip showed festive scenes from inside the White House, accompanied by a message encouraging Americans to cherish love and create a warm home wherever they are.
However, many social media users quickly resurfaced the 2018 secret audio in which Melania complained about being criticised over the Trump administration’s family separation policy while simultaneously expected to carry out traditional First Lady duties, including managing Christmas décor.
In the recording—captured by former friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff—Melania vents about being labelled complicit in her husband’s policies and expresses frustration with holiday obligations.
She is heard saying she works hard on Christmas preparations but questions why she should care about decorations amid political scrutiny. She also defended herself regarding the family separation controversy, arguing she attempted to help but was limited by legal processes.
The leaked recording originally caused a stir, especially as the Obama administration had separated families only under specific circumstances, while the Trump administration applied the policy more broadly until a court halted it.
At the time, Melania’s chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, criticised Wolkoff for releasing the tapes and breaching confidentiality, calling it an act of self-promotion.
Despite being years old, the clip continues to resurface, with users on X mocking Melania’s renewed holiday messaging by reminding others of her past remarks about not caring for Christmas.
