Michael J Fox shares heartbreaking update amid Parkinson’s diagnosis
Michael J. Fox has spent his life defying expectations, especially after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at just 29. To many, he remains one of the most courageous figures in Hollywood.
Now 64, the Back to the Future star continues to embody the humor and determination that made him beloved, though he recently opened up about facing new physical challenges.
In his new memoir Future Boy, Fox reflects on the film that launched his career and his journey since. He also appeared on Apple TV’s Shrinking alongside Harrison Ford and remains a devoted advocate for Parkinson’s research through his foundation, which has raised over $2 billion.
Earlier this year, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his efforts to advance understanding of the disease. Yet, in a recent People interview, Fox admitted that everyday life has become more difficult. “I wake up and get the message of what the day is gonna be like, and I try to adjust to it,” he said.
Fox revealed he now relies on a wheelchair frequently and rarely walks due to the risk of falling and injury. Over three years, he broke his elbow, hand, and nearly lost a finger to infection — injuries that forced him to slow down.
Despite these struggles, Fox stays focused on creativity and family, saying he still has “a lot left to do” as an actor, writer, husband, and father.
Though he knows he may not reach old age, Fox’s resilience and optimism continue to inspire millions worldwide.
