Minnesota Lobbyist Charged After Texts Threatening To Shoot Lawmakers

A longtime Minnesota lobbyist has been charged after allegedly threatening to shoot lawmakers at the state Capitol, boasting about his ammunition and saying he wanted to “blow somebody’s face off.”

Jonathan Bohn, 41, of Woodbury, faces one count of making threats of violence after a Waconia resident contacted the Carver County Sheriff’s Office on June 18, 2025, about disturbing text messages.

Investigators reviewed the texts, which allegedly included statements like, “I bought 500 bullets today,” and “I can’t wait to shoot one of you in the face,” along with other graphic threats.

The recipient told police he was so frightened he left a restaurant early, locked his doors, and struggled to sleep, noting that he and Bohn had not spoken for some time following political disagreements.

Officials confirmed that no specific lawmaker was targeted, and the Minnesota House Sergeant at Arms said there were no known threats against staff.

In a written statement after his arrest, Bohn expressed remorse, saying his texts were sent “in grief and anguish” following recent acts of political violence. He claimed his words came from pain, not intent, and apologized for contributing to “heated political discourse.”

The case comes amid heightened tensions in Minnesota after a June 14 shooting that killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and injured Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. Bohn was released on bail under strict conditions, including a gun ban and staying at least half a mile from the Capitol. His next hearing is set for August 27, 2025.
