New revenge p.rn law signed by Trump
Donald Trump has signed the Take It Down Act into law, aimed at combating the spread of non-consensual explicit content, including AI-generated deepfake pornography. The legislation was created in response to rising concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create fake sexualized images of real individuals, such as the widely circulated fake images of Taylor Swift. The bill prohibits the online publication of intimate content without consent—whether real or computer-generated—and requires platforms to remove such content within 48 hours of being notified. Failure to comply could result in criminal penalties for both creators and distributors of the material.
Trump called the bill a significant step in protecting individuals, especially women, from abuse linked to digital content and AI misuse. The law received widespread bipartisan support in Congress, with praise from figures like Senator Ted Cruz and First Lady Melania Trump, who called it a “national victory.” The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children also praised the bill for closing a legal gap. Social media reactions were largely positive, with many users applauding the move as a rare but welcome action by the Trump administration.
