New survey shows a surprising number of people support impeaching Donald Trump
A new poll shows unexpectedly high support for impeaching President Donald Trump once again. Nearly half of likely voters in swing districts back the move, with 45 percent saying they strongly favor it.
Trump already made history as the first U.S. president impeached twice. His first impeachment in 2019 centered on his phone call with Ukraine’s president, in which he allegedly linked military aid to an investigation into Joe Biden. The Senate acquitted him in early 2020.
His second impeachment came after the January 6 Capitol attack, when he was accused of inciting insurrection. He was acquitted again in February 2021.
The latest Lake Research Partners poll, commissioned by Free Speech For People, surveyed likely 2026 voters in competitive congressional districts. Results showed 46% support impeachment, 45% strongly support it, and 56% disapprove of Trump’s presidency overall. Researchers called the findings “remarkable” given how early it is in his term.
The “Impeach Trump Again” campaign, led by constitutional lawyers, has identified 25 possible grounds. These include concerns about Trump’s use of military force, targeting of political rivals, and undermining of federal institutions.
Critics argue Trump misused federal agencies like the DOJ and FBI, replacing officials who resisted political prosecutions. He has also been accused of threatening media outlets, expanding harsh immigration policies, and opening controversial detention facilities such as Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz.”
Advocates for impeachment warn Trump poses a grave threat to democracy. Legal experts say his actions erode institutions and the Constitution itself, urging Congress to consider new proceedings.
