Pelosi Predicts Democrats Will Win Back the House, Naming Hakeem Jeffries as Potential 2026 Speaker
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently voiced confidence that Democrats could retake the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. She shared her outlook at the Voters of Tomorrow summit, an event aimed at energizing young voters and activists.
Pelosi also expressed strong belief that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., would become the next Speaker if Democrats secure a majority. Jeffries, who followed Pelosi as the party’s leader in the House, continues to hold a central role within Democratic politics.
Reflecting on previous midterm wins, Pelosi highlighted the value of starting early with strategy, messaging, and grassroots engagement. She emphasized that effective planning, organization, and fundraising long before Election Day are essential for shifting control of the chamber.
She added that lowering former President Donald Trump’s approval ratings would be a key focus for Democrats as they approach 2026. Current polling places Trump at about 46% approval and 54% disapproval, slightly better than his numbers at the same point in 2016.
The Voters of Tomorrow gathering also included contributions from several notable Democrats. Speakers included former Vice President Kamala Harris, Representatives Ro Khanna and Jamie Raskin, and activist David Hogg. Harris and Raskin addressed the audience remotely.
Although Pelosi stepped down from House leadership after the 2022 midterms, she remains visible at party events and continues to assist with organizing efforts.
Her ongoing involvement underscores her enduring influence within the Democratic Party as preparations for the next election cycle begin.
