People concerned for Trump’s ‘mental decline’ after baffling footage shows him forgetting major detail
A recent video of Donald Trump has raised concerns on social media about his memory and mental fitness, after he appeared to forget that he appointed Jerome Powell as Chair of the Federal Reserve.
While speaking to reporters from the Oval Office, Trump criticized Powell’s performance, calling him a “terrible” Fed Chair and expressing surprise that “Joe Biden put him in and extended him.”
Social media users quickly pointed out that Trump himself had appointed Powell during his first term in office back in 2018, making the comment both inaccurate and ironic.
As the video circulated online, many noted a shift in Trump’s speech during the press conference — after initially blaming Biden, he appeared to pivot, instead attacking Biden for reappointing Powell.
This gaffe drew sharp criticism online, with some users posting clips of Trump’s original speech where he praised Powell during his initial appointment.
One X user wrote: “He can’t even remember appointing the Fed Chair—yet wants control of the economy and nuclear codes? If Biden did this, the media would erupt.”
Another user accused Trump of “cognitive decline” and warned that his “disregard for facts” was a threat to democracy and economic stability.
Others joked about the incident, with one person comparing Trump’s mental state to Biden’s, and another calling it “hard evidence” of decline.
Despite online backlash, Trump’s doctors have previously stated that he is mentally and physically healthy, and the White House has dismissed similar concerns in the past.
