People confused as Trump appears to call JD Vance ‘incompetent’ with him in the same room

Donald Trump has once again puzzled viewers after a clip circulated showing him seemingly insulting his own vice president during an interview.

The former president is known for speaking bluntly, but his harsh comments are usually reserved for political rivals rather than members of his own team.

However, a recent video shared online appeared to show Trump grouping his vice president, JD Vance, into criticism aimed at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ former running mate in the 2024 election.

In the clip from December 2, Trump was asked about Walz and the debates from the campaign. He immediately called Walz “grossly incompetent,” but his explanation made it seem like he included Vance in that label as well—even though Vance was standing nearby.

Trump said he had watched “J.D. destroy him in a debate” and then added, “Who is more incompetent? That man or my man?” creating confusion about who “my man” referred to.

He went on to say both men were incompetent and added that a woman involved was also incompetent, which only deepened the uncertainty among viewers online.

Social media users questioned why Trump appeared to insult Vance, but fact-checking site Snopes later clarified the meaning behind the remarks.

According to the White House, Trump had actually been referring to Joe Biden—not Vance—when he said “my man,” and his later mention of a woman likely referenced Kamala Harris or even Hillary Clinton from past campaigns.
