Popular Butter Brand
A popular butter brand, Cabot Creamery’s Extra Creamy Premium Butter, has been recalled in seven states due to elevated coliform bacteria levels. Though not always harmful, the presence of coliforms can indicate potential contamination from fecal matter. The recall, issued by Agri-Mark Inc. and classified as Class III by the FDA, affects a limited batch (189 cases), with most products recovered before reaching consumers. Only 17 packages made it to shelves in Vermont. No illnesses have been reported, but consumers are urged to check for the affected lot number and discard any impacted products.
This recall follows other recent food safety alerts, including Frito-Lay’s recall of Tostitos chips that mistakenly contained undeclared milk, posing a risk to those with allergies. Tony’s Chocolonely also recalled certain chocolate bars due to small stones found in the product, while canned tuna from Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s was pulled due to potential contamination with the dangerous botulinum toxin. Though no illnesses were reported in any of the cases, these incidents have fueled public concern over the growing number of food recalls in the U.S., with many consumers expressing frustration and worry about food safety standards.
