Prepare to Be Amazed

Bruce Campbell, a retired engineer from Oregon, turned his dream of unconventional living into reality by transforming a retired Boeing 727 into a unique and sustainable home. At 20, he bought 10 acres of forest for $23,000 and originally planned to build a house out of shipping containers. However, inspired by a story about a woman who lived in a repurposed airplane, he shifted gears and purchased a decommissioned jet from Olympic Airways in 1999. Transporting the aircraft from Greece to Oregon cost a total of $220,000, but Campbell saw it as a worthwhile investment in creativity and sustainability.

Once on his land, Campbell spent years converting the jet into a functional living space, keeping many original features while making the interior livable and efficient. The plane is filled with natural light, open spaces, and retains the cockpit as a nod to its past. His project emphasizes environmental responsibility by reusing old structures instead of letting them go to waste. Now a local curiosity and global inspiration, Campbell’s airplane home showcases the power of vision, innovation, and the willingness to think beyond traditional ideas of housing. His story encourages others to see potential in the unexpected.
