President Donald Trump lashes out after George Clooney and Amal receive French citizenship

President Donald Trump reacted angrily after reports surfaced that George Clooney, his wife Amal, and their twin children had received French citizenship. Trump vented on Truth Social on December 31, presenting the news as “good” in a clearly sarcastic tone.

In his post, Trump took aim at both the Clooneys and France. He ridiculed the couple as poor political commentators and criticized France’s crime and immigration issues, comparing them to what he called failures under former President Joe Biden.

Trump’s message framed the move as an escape enabled by weak immigration policies. He used the announcement to repeat familiar attacks on Biden, blending criticism of foreign policy with domestic political grievances.

The former president also revived tensions with Clooney over the actor’s July 2024 New York Times op-ed. In that piece, Clooney urged Biden to withdraw from the race after a weak debate performance and suggested Vice President Kamala Harris step forward.

Trump accused Clooney of abandoning Biden and then promoting Harris for attention. He mocked Harris and several Democratic governors, claiming Clooney’s political opinions generated more buzz than his acting career, which Trump dismissed as unimpressive.

Clooney has not responded directly to the latest remarks, but recently criticized CBS News for settling a lawsuit with Trump. He argued that major networks should have resisted legal pressure rather than paying to avoid conflict.

The Clooneys now reside in France, where they own a farm. George Clooney has said the move allows their children to grow up away from Hollywood, enjoying a quieter and more structured life.
