Pritzker Melts Down After Trump Says He ‘Should Be In Jail’

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has forcefully responded to Donald Trump’s claim that he and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson should be jailed for allegedly failing to protect ICE agents during a recent protest near Chicago. Speaking on ABC’s This Week, Pritzker condemned the comments as unconstitutional and politically driven.

Pritzker accused the former president and Vice President J.D. Vance of spreading “a tidal wave of lies,” saying the current administration was targeting political opponents. He emphasized his commitment to defending Illinois residents and upholding the law.

Earlier in the week, Pritzker made headlines by daring Trump to “come and get me,” a statement he reaffirmed on Sunday as a stand for state sovereignty and constitutional rights.

The governor also criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott for reportedly sending National Guard troops into Illinois without authorization, calling the move “offensive” and “unconstitutional.” He noted that even some Republican leaders had voiced similar concerns.

Trump’s remarks followed an altercation between protesters and ICE agents near a Broadview facility outside Chicago. Federal officials said a woman attempted to ram her car into agents while armed, prompting them to open fire before she was hospitalized and arrested.

Trump’s campaign has used the incident to attack Illinois’ sanctuary policies, claiming they endanger law enforcement and national security.

Pritzker, rumored to be considering a 2028 presidential bid, said he was unafraid of political retaliation, declaring, “He does not have the power to overcome the Constitution — and I’m not afraid to remind him of that.”
