Putin makes rare four-word commen

On August 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump met in Anchorage, Alaska, to explore possible solutions to the war in Ukraine.

The meeting lasted more than three hours but ended without a ceasefire or concrete peace deal.

“We didn’t get there,” Trump told reporters afterward. “But we have a very good chance of getting there.”

Both leaders described the talks as constructive. Trump explained, “Many points were agreed to, and there are just a few left. Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant.” He suggested additional discussions would follow.

At their joint press conference, Putin surprised the audience by extending an invitation: “Next time in Moscow,” he said in English. Trump, taken aback, replied, “That’s an interesting one. I’ll get a little heat on that. But I could see it possibly happening.” No American president has visited Russia since Barack Obama in 2013.

Ahead of the summit, Trump acknowledged doubts about achieving peace. “I want to end the war. It’s Biden’s war, but I want to end it,” he said. Reflecting on earlier talks with Putin, he admitted, “Then I go home and I see that a rocket hit a nursing home… so I guess the answer to that is no.”

As for consequences if Russia failed to cooperate, Trump warned of harsh measures: “Economically severe. It will be very severe… I’m doing this to save a lot of lives.”
