Rock legend takes brutal
American rock icon Neil Young has reignited his political activism, targeting Donald Trump and Elon Musk in a new protest song titled “Let’s Roll Again”. Performed at a benefit concert in Los Angeles, the track urges American carmakers like Ford, GM, and Chrysler to reclaim leadership in responsible manufacturing, while criticizing Musk’s influence at Tesla. With lyrics like, “If you’re a fascist, get a Tesla, If you’re a Democrat, taste your freedom,” Young also highlights China’s dominance in green vehicle production. His message lands just as Tesla suffers a steep 70% profit decline, and follows a trend of musicians like Billie Joe Armstrong and Jack White altering lyrics to protest U.S. politics.
Young, a dual Canadian-American citizen, has a long history of opposing Trump, once calling him “a disgrace to my country.” He previously protested with a “Hands off Canada” sign and performed at a Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rally. Writing on his website, Young expressed fear of being barred from the U.S. after criticizing Trump abroad. His wife, actress Daryl Hannah, revealed the Trump administration tried to block his citizenship. Given their ongoing feud — including a past lawsuit over unauthorized use of “Rockin’ in the Free World” — Trump likely isn’t a Neil Young fan.
