Scientific breakthrough revealed what Jesus
Retired medical artist Richard Neave, alongside Israeli archaeologists, has reconstructed what Jesus Christ may have looked like based on forensic anthropology. Neave, from the University of Manchester, used skulls from the 1st century around Jerusalem, analyzing them through computerized tomography to create detailed 3D images. Although hair and eye color could not be determined by the skulls alone, archaeological evidence from the time suggests that Jesus likely had dark eyes and a beard. There’s also debate over whether Jesus had long hair, but most biblical scholars argue that he probably had short, curly hair, as long hair was considered a disgrace for men in that era.
As for Jesus’ height, archaeologists estimate it was around 5 feet 1 inch, weighing about 110 pounds, which was average for men of his time. However, as a carpenter, Jesus may have been more muscular. While Neave’s depiction is not definitive, it offers a more historically grounded image of a 1st-century Jewish man than the traditional Western portrayals. Professor Alison Galloway of the University of California suggested this reconstruction is likely much closer to reality than the idealized images created by Renaissance masters.
