Scientists find ‘proof’ that disproves
A team of scientists believes there could be a scientific explanation for one of Jesus Christ’s most famous miracles — the “Feeding of the 5,000.” The New Testament story, found in all four Gospels, describes Jesus feeding a crowd with just five loaves of bread and two fish. However, researchers publishing in the Water Resources Research journal in 2024 suggest this event might not have been a miracle, but rather a result of a natural fish die-off in Lake Kinneret, believed to be the Biblical Sea of Galilee.
The scientists studied environmental conditions in the lake, using sensors to track water temperature, oxygen levels, and wind patterns. They found that during strong winds, deep cold water low in oxygen could rise to the surface, killing fish in a phenomenon called “upwelling.” This sudden mass die-off could have resulted in large quantities of fish floating to the surface, offering a possible source for the large meal. The researchers suggest such an event may have been the true source of the fish, challenging the miracle interpretation by pointing to natural environmental processes occurring in the region during that time.
