Study reveals how many minutes
A new study from Cambridge University reveals that walking just 11 minutes a day can significantly lower the risk of early death. While current US guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise weekly, researchers suggest even minimal daily activity can be beneficial. Dr. Soren Brage emphasized that any movement is better than none, and starting small can gradually lead to meeting full exercise recommendations. The study found that 75 minutes of moderate activity weekly can reduce cardiovascular disease risk by 17% and cancer by 7%.
Professor James Woodcock added that even short periods of physical activity like walking or cycling, especially when it raises your heart rate, can yield major health benefits. The study also found that one in six early deaths could be avoided with 150 minutes of weekly exercise. Dr. Leandro Garcia from Queen’s University Belfast highlighted that moderate activity doesn’t have to involve traditional workouts—it can be as simple as walking instead of driving or playing actively with children. Incorporating enjoyable and easy activities into your routine can be a sustainable path to better health.
