Tennis Star Braun Levi

Promising young athlete Braun Levi, an 18-year-old tennis star from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, tragically died in a suspected DUI crash in Manhattan Beach on May 4. Levi, who recently celebrated his fourth straight Mission League doubles championship win, was struck while walking with a friend. The driver, identified as Jenia Belt, was arrested for DUI and murder. Belt had a prior DUI-related arrest and her license was suspended at the time of the crash. The Loyola community is mourning Levi’s loss, holding a vigil attended by hundreds. Tributes poured in, highlighting Levi’s leadership, kindness, and impact as a friend and athlete.

Levi was known for his achievements both on and off the court, including competing in the 2022 Maccabiah Games in Israel. His family had recently relocated to South Bay after losing their home in a fire earlier in the year. Levi’s death comes just a year after the loss of another Loyola athlete, Ryan Times, and has deeply affected the community. His best friend and doubles partner, Cooper Schwartz, shared a heartfelt tribute, remembering Levi as a brother and an inspiration. Levi, who planned to attend the University of Virginia, will be remembered for his positive spirit and remarkable accomplishments.
