The case of..

A long-lost “ghost ship” has finally been identified after mysteriously reappearing nine years later.

The abandoned vessel was discovered on the shores of Burma, drawing attention because it carried no cargo and had no crew aboard.

Local police in Thongwa announced the discovery on social media, describing the ship as a large, rusted vessel drifting near Rangoon.

When authorities boarded it, they found only five fishermen inside. These men had simply entered out of curiosity, hoping the law of the sea might allow them to claim something of value.

Investigators quickly turned their attention to the ship’s identity. It was revealed to be the Sam Ratulangi PB 1600, a vessel that had vanished nearly a decade earlier.

Further research linked the ship to Bangladesh, a country known for its massive ship-breaking industry. Each year, hundreds of commercial ships are dismantled at the port of Chittagong, the nation’s second-largest city.

The mystery was thus resolved: the Sam Ratulangi PB 1600 had not been lost forever, but instead abandoned as part of the global trade in scrapped vessels, eventually drifting until it ran aground in Burma.
