The FBI has released an updated description of a person of interest in the Nancy Guthrie
Federal Bureau of Investigation officials in Phoenix have issued a revised description of a person linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie and increased the reward for information leading to her safe recovery to $100,000. Authorities hope the higher reward will encourage useful tips.
The person of interest is described as a man about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build, carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail hiking backpack. Investigators say the updated description is meant to narrow public responses and reduce unreliable reports.
Since early February, more than 13,000 tips have reached federal agents, while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has handled nearly 18,000 calls. Officials noted that some submissions, including claims from psychics, have complicated efforts to sort credible information.
Nearly two weeks after Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1, investigators continue examining every lead considered trustworthy.
Residents living within two miles of her home are being asked to provide doorbell or surveillance footage from key dates in January, especially during late evening hours.
Authorities are also reviewing an unverified report involving a white van and have collected possible physical evidence, including a glove discovered roughly a mile and a half from her residence, now undergoing forensic analysis.
Investigators stress that safely locating Guthrie remains the central goal. They hope the clearer suspect description and increased reward will generate dependable information while keeping the search careful, focused, and fair.
