When Emma the pig arrived at Apricot Lane Farm, she was critically ill, weak, and heavily pregnant. The veterinarians were unsure if she would survive, predicting that she would give birth to no more than six piglets. However, Emma defied expectations, delivering 17 piglets, 13 of which survived.
Despite her miraculous delivery, Emma was too weak and feverish to care for her piglets. Concerned for her health, farm owner Chester removed the piglets, fearing for her life. Without them, Emma’s condition worsened. In a desperate attempt to save her, Chester returned the piglets to her. In an extraordinary turn of events, Emma’s health began to improve as she reunited with her babies.
Chester later reflected, “She was saved by her calling—to be a mother. Sometimes, what seems most threatening can hold the power to heal.”
