Trump administration makes major call on Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell after she appealed conviction
Ghislaine Maxwell’s prison sentence is set to end in 2037 after being convicted in 2021 for her role in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. At age 63, she is serving a 20-year sentence for luring underage girls for Epstein, a convicted pedophile.
Maxwell was found guilty on several counts, including sex trafficking of minors and multiple conspiracy charges related to enticing and transporting minors for illegal sexual activity.
Her legal team argues her conviction should be void due to a non-prosecution agreement made between Epstein and the U.S. government, which they claim should also have protected her as a co-conspirator.
Despite multiple attempts by Maxwell to secure a retrial, federal courts have consistently rejected her appeals over recent years.
On July 14, the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Trump administration urged the Supreme Court to dismiss her most recent appeal, opposing her claim that the government violated its agreement.
Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, criticized the move, suggesting that Trump, known for his deal-making, would likely disagree with breaking such an agreement.
Sigrid McCawley, a lawyer representing Epstein’s victims, praised the DOJ’s decision and said Maxwell should remain imprisoned, highlighting the long-term abuse and recruitment of young girls under her involvement in Epstein’s network.
